Model A Economy Run
March 25

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED.
DUE TO PENDING WEATHER CONCERNS WE ARE POSTPONING THIS EVENT TO A LATER DATE. AS SOON AS A DATE AND TIME ARE CONFIRMED WE WILL UPDATE THIS EVENT PAGE AND YOU WILL LIKELY RECEIVE AN EMAIL NOTIFICATION AS WELL.
ALSO, OUR START POINT HAS MOVED (200 YARDS) TO THE PARKING AREA FOR INGLES NEXT DOOR TO THE WEIGEL’S IN LENOIR CITY. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO FUEL YOUR VEHICLE AT EITHER WEIGEL’S OR INGLES.
The first Annual SMMAC Model A Economy Run is postponed at this time. To participate in this club event please email Tony Gardner or plan to attend our next club meeting where he will be reviewing the event details and have a sign-up sheet available.
The starting point will be Ingles Markets in Lenoir City located on US 321 just northwest of US 11 Hwy. You are asked to fuel your vehicle there, if necessary, and your initial gas level will be measured by our gas gauge.
When filling your car‘s gas tank DO NOT FILL IT TO THE TOP AT THE FILLER NECK!!! Fill your tank so that your gas gauge is between ¾ tank and near full but not over. If you fill it above that, we will not get a good reading. The entire trip will only use about 3-5 gallons of gas (about 65 miles). Each entry will get a sheet with their car’s information and the starting gas level. At the end of the trip, we will measure the gas level again and calculate the MPG (gas mileage). There will be an annual award for the best MPG.
The trip starting in Lenoir City will go south a short way on US 321 and turn onto Tellico Parkway heading south to TN 72. We will follow that south to US 411 and make a right turn to Madisonville, where we will turn off to TN 68 south heading toward Tellico Plains. At Tellico Plains we will turn left to TN 165 (Cherohala Skwy) and only go a short distance on TN 165 to the Cherohala Skyway Visitor Center for a pit stop and some shopping. After which we will go on to the Iron Works Grille for a leisurely lunch.
After lunch, we will head back toward Tellico Plains but turn off on TN 360 going northwest to Vonore. When we hit US 411 we will stop at the Shell station as our final destination and then measure the final gas reading. We will use a Google Map standard distance to calculate the individual MPGs. The best mileage and second best will receive an award.
A sign-up sheet will be available at the March 18 meeting or you can email me at tony1946dec@gmail.com to become an entry. We will discuss this at the meeting and maps will be available for participants.
